Recommended Blogs (and thanks!)

This time last week, I found out that How To Be A Good Wife has been longlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize and I was utterly thrilled.

I have had lots of lovely congratulations since the list was announced, and I wanted to take the time to thank some of the wonderful bloggers who have been so supportive of my book since it came out.  It really has meant the world to me.

So, below, are a list of their blogs, which have become regular reads of mine.  Thanks for everything you’ve done!
1.  These Little Words (Lizzi)
Lizzi first reviewed How To Be A Good Wife and has since come along to author events I’ve done.  It was great to meet her in person and have a good chat.  I did a guest post on my favourite book of 2012 for her too.  She reviews a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction.  Her reading is always insightful, through and well written.
I was thrilled to be featured as one of Isabel’s Hot Picks for 2013, and also featured as a guest on her blog, talking about the setting of How To Be A Good Wife.  Isabel features reviews, articles, and guest posts, as well as her wildly popular Hot Picks which she runs twice annually.  She’s an engaging blogger, and covers a wide range of themes and books.  Highly recommended.

3.  Words of Mercury (Alan Bowden)

Alan reviewed How To Be A Good Wife so throughly and philosophically when it first came out that I was astounded by his insight.  He reviews widely, and as a philosophy PhD student, his writing is crisp and astute, delving deep thematically.

4.  Culture Street

Culture Street  interviewed mereviewed my book, and chose it as their Book of the Week in January.  It’s an awesome website which doesn’t just limit itself to books but also TV, film, and theatre, and posts brilliant recipes and foodie ideas.

5.  Little Reader Library (Lindsay Healy)

Lindsay reviewed my book on her blog and has continued to be supportive on Twitter and Facebook, which means a lot.  She reviews widely, both classics and contemporary, and is always astute and interesting to read.

6.  Random Things Through My Letterbox (Anne Cater)

Anne’s blog reviewed How To Be A Good Wife back in January.  She writes about books and products she receives through the post and has been a staunch online supporter of my book.  Thanks Anne!

7.  Write Note Reviews (Monique Mulligan)

Monique wrote a great review of How To Be A Good Wife and has continued to be a supportive presence on Facebook and Twitter.  She also grilled me in one of the most indepth interviews I’ve done!  Monique has some great reviews and interviews on her blog, and also runs writerly events in Western Australia.  I hope to attend one one day!

8.  For Books’ Sake (Cariad Martin and Alisande Fitzsimons)

I was interviewed by For Books’ Sake earlier this year and was really blown away by the brilliant questions they thought up.  They combined my answers into a great review/interview.  There’s a focus on women writers and readers here, and the posts are always really well researched and written.

I know I’m going into thanks overload, but I also just wanted to thank Suzanne Kennedy, a Facebook fan who has been overwhelmingly supportive of both me and the rest of our WA writer’s group.

Does anyone else have any blog recommendations?  I love reading new ones…

  1. Congratulations on the nomination – I have your book firmly on my reading list! I was a little bit disappointed by 'Before I go to sleep', but I keep hearing that yours is subtler and more disquieting. And what great recommendations for book blogs – I am going to follow all of them!
